Clearing Up Acne Is No Easy Feat…

Clearing up acne is no easy feat, but it is very possible with dedication, patience, and determination. I say determination because it can be so easy to become frustrated while going through the ebbs and flows of the entire process of purging ,clearing and maintaining clear skin.

I want to go over some of the things to consider as well as some of the things that have helped me to clear my own skin.

Internal factors can be at play along with external factors , food , stress , hormonal imbalance are just a few broad reasons of why one may encounter a flare up .

My first suggestion to you would be to keep a food journal, as well as progress photos to find out if there may be any food sensitivities or triggers and will make the elimination process more clear as time goes on.

Sweet potato, leafy greens, apples, cucumber and lemon to name a few, are great foods that carry important nutrients for healthy skin and body function. Remember the skin not only protects the skeletal system but it also send us messages on things that may be going on within us internally. B vitamins along with zinc magnesium and omega-3‘s have become staples for me . Water is also very necessary for our body to function effectively, flush toxins resulting in a more clear healthy complexion .

For myself, it was not hard to tell that my issue with flareups was lack of water, I love coffee by nature, and may not have been getting enough nutrients in the foods I was consuming.

Topical ingredients that can help clear the skin of existing acne include : aha’s (glycolic, lactic, malic acids) bha’s (salicylic acid). These ingredients exfoliate to help keep dead skin from building up/harboring bacteria . These acids will also play an effective part to assist in the aftermath of a break out (post inflammatory pigmentation PIH) . Retinol /Retin-a (don’t forget your spf ), Vitamin C is important for correcting texture, scars/discoloration while simultaneously protecting and clearing the complexion.

This may seem like a bit to some but your home routine combined with in-clinic treatments are another part of the journey .
Be kind and patient with yourself, everyone has a different recipe that will help them reach their skin goals.
