Exfoliating & Why It’s Key In Skin Health

Here’s a great way to visualize why we should exfoliate…

Think about repainting a dresser, you can totally just grab some paint and get it done but without sloughing off the old layers you will be left with crevices, dirt & debris under a messy paint job. You’re much better off cleaning & scrubbing the surface to allow the new paint to go on smoothly. This is exactly what exfoliating your skin is like, improving the appearance of texture & skin tone for fresh, glowing skin!

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin & if done properly, is a great way to keep your skin care in check!

There are a couple different ways of exfoliating but my faves are Dermaplaning by a professional, medical grade chemical peels & of course the ZO exfoliating polish aka “skin crack” for your at home skin care.

-Dermaplaning is a procedure using a scalpel that exfoliates the top layer skin & gets rid of dirt and vellus hair “peach fuzz”. It leaves your skin brighter & smoother, softens fine lines & wrinkles & eases hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone & scarring. NO, your hair will not grow back thicker or darker, it will come back the same. We Recommend every 4-6 weeks, hair & skins cell turnover rate is every 28-40 days.

-Medical grade chemical peels are an exfoliating & resurfacing treatment that gently lifts &peels away your skin's top most layers. The goal is rid your face of dead unhealthy cells making room for the new skin cells underneath waiting to surface. Peels work by inducing acute inflammation. Don’t be scared! Inflammation is actually a key component. Skin responds with increased growth of new cells & amplified collagen production. Both help to give your complexion the boost it needs by plumping and firming tissues, whisking away wrinkles, and restoring a youthful glow. Recommend every 4-6 weeks

-ZO Exfoliating polish is legit “skin crack”, I promise you will want to & CAN use it everyday! You just need a small amount, massage in & the ultra fine magnesium oxide crystals physically exfoliate dead skin cells away & other debris to improve skin radiance while washing away clean & leaving skin instantly soft & smooth with a vitamin c to help brighten along the way. Twice a week is nice but everyday is even better. Highly recommend for everyone!

“Dr. Obagi defines one full skin cycle as the time it takes from new cells to be born at the deepest layer of the epidermis (the skin's outer layer), and mature as they rise to the surface of the skin, and then ultimately be shed off. This process takes approximately six weeks”.

When:

Though any time of day will work, exfoliating in the morning is ideal since the skin repairs itself at night leaving a dead layer of skin ready to be sloughed off.

Benefits:

- Removes dull or dry skin

- Unclogs Pores

- Helps Prevent Acne

- Helps Skincare Penetrate Deeper

- Evens Skin Tone & Texture

- Increases Blood Circulation

- Provides an Instant Glow

- Anti-Aging

- Prepares skin for Flawless Makeup Application

Fun Fact:

In babies, the skin renews itself every 14 days. In teenagers, this process takes about 28 days. In adults, it takes between 28 and 42 days. In those that are 50 and older, the skin renewal process can take up to 84 days. Let that sink in! If you haven't tried any of these, the time is now!

Lets face it, we all want to age the best we can…Backwards!
