Threads

What is a Thread Lift?

Thread lift is also called a barbed suture lift. This procedure is a minimally invasive alternative to facelift surgery. Thread lifts will tighten your skin by inserting medical-grade thread material into your face and then “pulling” your skin up by tightening the thread.

Thread lifts have been around since the 1990s, but innovations in the material used for thread lifts have led to an increase in popularity in recent years.

The typical candidate for a thread lift is in their late 30s to early 50s. A person who is generally in good health and is just starting to notice the signs of aging may benefit the most from the subtle impact of a thread lift.

Safety & Convenience

Thread lifts are considered a low-risk procedure with minimal recovery time, but side effects of redness, bruising, and swelling do occur. This procedure can be performed in about 45 minutes, and, if you want to, you can go right back to work afterward.

What threads do we use at Jules?

MINT PDO threads are the type of threads we use at Jules. They are from South Korea, and it is a safe & effective absorbable suture made from a biocompatible material called PDO, polydioxanone. With a decade worth of safety track record in surgery, PDO is a safe raw material that has been used for orthopedic and cardiovascular surgery for wound closure. Starting 2004, PDO’s use has evolved so that it is applied for minimally invasive procedure such as for soft tissue approximation in MINT PDO’s procedures. Additionally, in 2016, MINT PDO received  510(K) clearance from the FDA by demonstrating that the device to be marketed is safe and effective, and it is  currently used globally in 14 other countries worldwide.

MINT PDO is used to pull and approximate soft tissues of the sagging skin to a desired position. MINT’s bi-directional and helically positioned barbs strongly anchor onto the soft tissue and then approximate it to the desired position. The procedure is simple and done through local anesthesia. Patients will experience minimal pain, minimal scarring, and a rapid recovery.

How does Thread Lift work?

Thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require general anesthesia nor big incisions. It is introduced into the deeper layers of the skin, and the helically molded barbs on the MINT PDO threads we use anchors onto the sagging tissue, and the thread is lifted upwards to achieve an instant, rejuvenating & contouring effect.

What is the recovery time?

After the MINT thread lift procedure, patients may immediately return to daily lives, but they should consult with their physicians before resuming exercise and other intense activities.

Are there any risks associated with the procedure?

Although minimal, side effects may include but are not limited to bruising, dimpling, and swelling.

How long do results last?

Patients will see immediate results after the procedure that can last up to 1 year.  We use MINT PDO threads at Jules. Despite being relatively new to the US market, MINT has a stronger fixation power and better specification designs in comparison to other PDO threads. By restoring the patient’s lost youth with a sharper jawline and V-line, MINT procedures address signs of aging caused by gravity, such as sagging skin. Not only that, patients may also experience improvement in skin texture, fine lines, and elasticity from collagen stimulation and neovascularization.  As a result, after about 6-8 months when MINT PDO is completely dissolved by the body into water and carbon dioxide, the results will last for about 3-6 months more due to the collagen stimulation. With minimal scarring and downtime, it is an amazing option for patients looking into achieving instant and natural-looking results.
